The Advanced Recycling Conference 2026 explores technologies, markets, financing and scale-up of innovative recycling solutions for waste streams including mixed plastic waste, textiles and PVC.

Alongside advanced recycling solutions for plastics and other complex material streams, this year’s program places a strong focus on textile recycling. Presentations range from innovative separation technologies for blended fabrics to chemical fibre-to-fibre recycling and the challenges of bringing new processes to industrial scale.

On 17–18 November 2026, the Advanced Recycling Conference (ARC) in Cologne, Germany, once more brings together international experts from industry, research, technology development and policy to discuss the latest developments in physical, chemical, biochemical and thermochemical recycling. A particular focus is placed on the solutions for textile recycling, including the treatment of mixed textiles, recovery of valuable fibres and polymers, and the industrial scale-up of fibre-to-fibre recycling technologies.

The need for new solutions in the textile sector is substantial: each year around 6.95 million tonnes of textile waste are generated in Europe, while only around 1.02 million tonnes are sent to recycling or backfilling. At the same time, complex fibre blends remain one of the main technical barriers to closing textile material loops.

Modern textiles frequently combine natural and synthetic fibres and use dyes, finishes and other components, making high-quality recycling considerably more challenging than for mono-materials. New physical and chemical recycling technologies aim to overcome these barriers by separating fibre blends, recovering polymers and cellulose, and enabling recycled materials to return to textile applications instead of being downcycled.

The session brings together approaches at very different stages of development, addressing novel solvent systems demonstrated at laboratory scale to technologies already progressing towards commercial industrial operation.
