Fraunhofer UMSICHT – Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology

Fraunhofer UMSICHT – Institute branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg

Fraunhofer UMSICHT develops process engineering solutions in the field of carbon conversion (recycling technologies for plastics and composite materials, next-generation biofuels, biochar).

We offer thermochemical recycling processes for feedstocks that are difficult to recycle. One focus of our work is on downstream processes for pyrolysis products and their processing into basic chemicals for defossilized chemistry.

With a focus on process engineering and plant construction, it supports clients from the project idea through pilot plants and demonstrators to market launch.

Furthermore we work on low-emission combustion systems as well as the provision and storage of process heat. It also has expertise in waste and resource strategies and life cycle assessment (LCA).

The Center for Energy Storage at the institute’s branch focuses on integrated, decentralized energy conversion and energy storage systems.
