Special focus today on Session "Dissolution"
Dissolution describes a solvent-based technology based on physical processes. It allows targeted dissolution of polymers in a suitable solvent, while retaining the chemical structure of the polymer.
Other plastic components (e.g. additives, pigments, fillers, non- targeted polymers, and other contaminations) remain undissolved and can be separated from the dissolved target polymer. With the process it is possible to address mixed plastics waste and multilayer material which opens new path for waste streams that are difficult to recycle. The solvents need to be selected for the targeted polymer based on various parameters which can be supported via computational modelling.
